Time to start planning the annual Yellow Island/Jones Island Kayak Trip.
I am hoping to coordinate this trip with Hole-in-the-Wall paddlers, but nothing is firmed up with them yet.

This year we will go the first weekend in May and hit the peak of the wildflowers on Yellow Island.

Fri. My plan is to catch the ferry in Anacortes to Lopez Island, drive to Odlin County Park and launch there. It’s about a 9 mile paddle from Odlin to Jones Island where I intend to camp two nights.
Sat. We will paddle over to the Nature Conservancy’s Yellow Island and walk the trails there to view the fantastic spring wild flower display. After that we will probably take a paddle through the Wasp Islands.
Sun. We will return to the original launch site.

Costs: There will be costs for the ferry, parking fees at Odlin Park and camping fees on Jones Island to plan on.

Requirements:
Conditions: Fairly protected waters. Potential for wind waves, and other standard hazards.
Gear: PFD and cold-water immersion wear required (drysuit or wetsuit). Standard Sea Kayak with proper floatation is required. You must bring all your own water, it will not be available at the campsite.
Skills: You must have the standard beginning skills, such as wet exit, unassisted re-entry, etc. Ideally you have practiced these skills this year. Jeremy’s and Gary’s pool sessions would be a good place to do this. You must be able to pack your boat with all your own camping gear and food and water. 

This is a Skill level II trip with the possibility of some eddy lines and mild current action.

Please remember, WAKE trips are not guided trips. You are responsible for being properly prepared and having the necessary skills.

If you are unsure of your suitability, call me and we will discuss it. This is intended for everyone but a raw beginner. Remember, unexpected weather can change the character of any trip.
